Riverdale, N.Y. (October 1, 2006)-For the second consecutive day,
Whitney Judkins hit over .390 and Manhattan Volleyball secured a victory over a MAAC opponent. This time it was Iona College falling victim to Judkins and the Lady Jaspers by a score of 3-1 (30-26, 30-25, 22-30, 31-29) on Sunday afternoon at Draddy Gym.
Judkins, who finished with 14 kills and a .393 attack percentage in yesterday's win over Marist College, pieced together an even better performance against the Gaels. The senior co-captain recorded a new career high in kills with 19 and hit .395. Her previous career high stood at 15 kills against Niagara in October 2004.
Joining Judkins with double-digit kills for the second straight match were freshman Kandice Watson and sophomore
Sherryta Stokes. Watson, who notched a career-best 20 kills in Saturday's triumph, posted a double-double against the Gaels with 14 kills and 16 digs. After converting for 16 kills yesterday, Stokes added another 12 today to go along with eight digs and a match-high six aces.
As it was the day before, Manhattan's service game was brilliant at times and ugly at others; the Lady Jaspers recorded 14 aces, but also gave away 18 points due to errors.
A day after handing out a career-high 60 assists, sophomore setter
Alyssa Getzel finished with 52 helpers and 12 digs. Junior
Ashley Watson continued to steady the Manhattan defense with 22 digs.
Megan Dailey and Morgan Young led the way for Iona on offensive with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
With the victory, Manhattan evens its conference record at 3-3, while the loss drops the Gaels to 1-4 in MAAC play.
Before traveling to Western New York for weekend matches at Niagara University and Canisius College, the Lady Jasper are slated to play a mid-week match at Fairleigh Dickinson University on Wednesday, October 4.
