Arturo Dubois and
CJ Anderson each tallied double-doubles, as Manhattan ran its win streak to eight with a 95-82 win over Saint Peter's College this afternoon at Draddy Gym. The win improves the Jaspers' record to 8-4, and ups their MAAC record to 4-0, as Manhattan is the only team that is currently unbeaten in MAAC play. The Peacocks fall to 7-6, 3-1 in MAAC play.
Saint Peter's took the early lead in the game, outscoring Manhattan 9-4 over the first 3:30 of the game before the Jaspers answered with a 22-0 run over the next five minutes, capped off by a
Devon Austin dunk, to open up a 17 point lead, 26-9, with 11:27 left in the opening stanza. Dubois and
Jeff Xavier each tallied seven points in the spurt. The Peacocks were able to whittle the lead to nine, 30-21, with 8:19 left in the half, but the Jaspers again responded with a run to push the lead back to 18, 46-28, with 4:48 left before the break. Saint Peter's was again able to cut its deficit to single digits, closing to within seven, 46-39, 1:52 before the half, but Manhattan closed out the half with a 7-1 run to take a 13 point lead, 53-40, into the intermission.
The two teams played even in the second half, as 30 combined fouls slowed the pace of the game. Manhattan was able to extend its lead to as many as 21 in the early going of the second stanza, and Saint Peter's was unable to cut the lead to less than 12 the rest of the way.
Anderson scored a team-high 24 points to go along with 11 rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals. Dubois added 12 caroms to his 20 points (his second straight double-double), while blocking four blocks. Joining the duo in double-figures were Xavier (18 points, six boards, five assists, two steals) and
Jason Wingate (17 points).
Keydren Clark led all scorers with a game-high 41 points.
The Jaspers continue their three game home stand on Friday, January 13, hosting MAAC foe Rider at 7:00 p.m. at Draddy Gym.
