GARCIA'S GOAL, DEFINO'S SHUTOUT PROPEL WOMEN'S SOCCER TO 1-0 WIN

Staten Island, N.Y. (September 1, 2005)- The Lady Jaspers picked up their first win in the Sean Driscoll era, as Manhattan downed Wagner, 1-0, this afternoon. Jess Garcia tallied the game's lone goal, and Alicia DeFino registered her first shutout of the season.

Manhattan was aggressive on offense throughout, outshooting the Seahawks by a 23-7 count. At the 66:18 mark, Lauren Zdunczyk fed Garcia, who put away her first goal of the season from eight yards out.

Alicia DeFino stopped all five shots she faced for the shutout, while Wagner's Ashley Wilson kept the Seahawks in the game, making 14 saves.

Manhattan gets back in action on Sunday, September 4, when the Lady Jaspers travel across the Bronx to battle local rival Fordham at 1:00 p.m.
