Riverdale, NY (September 28, 2004)- In the second meeting between the two schools this year, Fordham defeated Manhattan in three games by scores of 30-23, 30-27 and 30-23. Cassie Sharp recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs while Vanessa Breiwa had a match-high 14 kills via a .667 hitting percentage to lead Fordham.
Megan O'Dorisio had a team-high 11 kills and Lori Bambauer had 32 assists to lead the attack for Manhattan.
Fordham (7-7) got off to a hot start by hitting for a .529 percentage in the first game. Behind six kills from Sharp and 18 assists from Kealia Ieremia, the Rams took the first game after fending off Manhattan, which cut the lead to 17-15 at one point but would get no closer.
Manhattan (4-12) began the second game by taking a 7-6 lead before Fordham grabbed the lead with a 9-4 run to make the score 15-11 on an ace from Breiwa. The Lady Jaspers again fought back to shave the deficit to two points on three separate occasions but the Rams tallied the final point of the game to take a 2-0 match lead.
The third game was also a back-and-forth affair, as Manhattan tied the score at six early in the stanza on a kill from
Whitney Judkins. However, Fordham took control at that point, extending its lead to 27-19, its largest of the match. Manhattan rallied to grab the next three points, but Fordham took the next two points and eventually won the third game, 30-23.
The Lady Jaspers will return to the court on Friday, October 1, when they will travel to South Orange, NJ to take on Seton Hall at 7:00 p.m.
