Poughkeepsie, NY (April 18, 2004)- The women's lacrosse team lost another double overtime, 10-9 to their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League rival Marist, this afternoon on Leonidoff Field. The loss drops Manhattan's record to 8-6 and 3-2 in the MAAC. Marist's record improves to 5-8 and 2-1 in the MAAC.
Marist jumped on top with two early goals before Lady Jasper
Catherine Dunbar started the scoring for Manhattan off a pass from
Jamie Carter. Marist lead 4-2 with 9:48 to play in the first half when senior
Mary Dudek tallied a goal decreasing Marists lead to only one goal. Before the end of the half Marist scored again taking a 5-3 lead into the intermission.
The Lady J's opened the second half with two quick goals, tying the score 5-5 4:05 into the half. Marist's Maria Reoch gave the Red Foxes a 6-5 lead, but 90 seconds later, Manhattan tallied three unanswered goals in a 5:00 span to take an 8-6 lead. Red Fox Lauren Serge made the score 8-7 with 12:08 to play, and Dudek tallied the final goal of the game for Manhattan with 6:49 to play to take a 9-7 advantage. With 24 seconds left and the score 9-8 Marist tied the game scoring on a free position shot taking the game into overtime.
In overtime, Marist scored the lone goal with 20 seconds left to play taking a 10-9 victory over the Lady Jaspers.
Ashley Devins made 12 saves, while Heather Ripp made 11 saves to earn the win for Marist.
Mary Dudek led the team today with four goals, while teammate
Victoria Carman scored one goal and had two assists for three points.
Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday, April 21, when it travels to New Britain, CT for a game against Central Connecticut.
