Bethlehem, PA (March 24, 2004)- Lehigh scored twice in the ninth inning to post a come-from-behind, 8-7, win over the Jaspers today at Goodman Field on the Lehigh campus.
The Mountain Hawks took the early lead on a homer in the bottom of the second. Manhattan responded with two runs in the top of the third, as
Sam Deluca singled home
Frank Cappello, and
Matt Cucurullo singled home
Nick Derba for a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of third, Lehigh knotted the score at 2-2 with an RBI single.
In the top of the fourth,
Josh Greco connected on the first of his two two-run homers, driving home
John Fitzpatrick, who had walked.
The Mountain Hawks scored one run in the fourth and two in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead.
In the eighth, Greco connected on his second round tripper, driving home Fitzpatrick, before
Gary Diaz plated Sal Candella with an RBI single.
After allowing a leadoff walk to open the bottom of the ninth, Lehigh belted a two-run game-ending home run to escape with the 8-7 win.
Greco went 2-4 with four RBI, while Cappello was a perfect 4-4.
Ken Gleason started and went the first four innings, allowing five hits while striking out two.
Steve Bronder pitched an inning and a third, and was charged with the loss.
