Brianna Gauthier joined the Manhattan coaching staff as an assistant coach in May 2014. She came to Riverdale after four years as an assistant at Mount St. Mary’s.
In 2013-14, Gauthier helped lead Mount St. Mary’s to a 19-14 record and its first-ever appearance in the Women’s NIT. In 2012-13, the Mountaineers went 15-16 and reached the semifinals of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament for the first time since 2000-01.
While at Mount St. Mary’s, Gauthier played with or coached five 1,000-point scorers, including Sydney Henderson, who was a First Team All-NEC selection in 2013-14. Henderson was also named Second Team All-NEC in 2012-13, and Gauthier guided two other Mountaineers to all-conference honors during her tenure.
A four-year letterwinner at Mount St. Mary’s, Gauthier ended her career as the Mountaineers’ all-time leader in games played (119) and games started (116). She also ranked second all-time in three-pointers (164), ninth in assists (335) and 18th in scoring (1,128) at the time of her graduation. A three-year team captain, Gauthier was selected to the NEC All-Rookie Team in 2005-06. In addition, she received the Kolon Award, which goes to the student-athlete who, through hard work and determination, earned the respect and admiration of his or her fellow athletes and coaches, as a senior.
She played one season of professional basketball with the Umea Comets in Sweden before beginning her coaching career at Norwich University in 2009-10. That season, the Cadets posted a 20-8 record, including a 10-2 mark in conference play, and advanced to the conference championship game.
Gauthier graduated from Mount St. Mary’s with a degree in Sports Management in 2009, and she added a Master’s in Business Administration from Mount St. Mary’s in 2012.
She married John Griffin, an assistant coach with the Rider men's basketball team, in August 2014.
