2013 MAAC Coach Of The Year
Jorden Scott enters his 12th year as Head Coach of the Manhattan Men's Soccer team in 2024.
Scott was named as the eighth coach in in the history of the program after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant (2010-2012) under Ashley Hammond. Overall, Scott possesses over 16 years of coaching and playing experience.
In 2023, Scott coached Manhattan to a 6-3-1 record in MAAC play which saw the Jaspers advance all the way to the MAAC Semifinals. It marked the sixth time Scott's Jaspers have reeled off a .500 or better record against conference foes. The run to the semifinals represented the third berth to the penultimate round under Scott, including the second straight appearance.
During the 2022 campaign, Scott guided the Jaspers to an 8-5-6 mark and 5-1-4 record in MAAC play as Manhattan advanced to the semifinals. Freshman center back Nassim Akki was named the 2022 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.
In 2021, the Jaspers showed remarkable poise and chemistry in winning four of five games late to qualify for the MAAC Tournament, with the postseason-clinching win being a 2-0 victory at Rider in the regular season finale. The growth of the Manhattan program under Scott was also evidenced by the Jaspers' 1-0 win over Fordham which represented their third straight victory over the Rams. As a result of a 1-0 win in 2018 and a 2-1 overtime win in 2019, the local bragging rights comfortably belonged to Scott and Manhattan irrespective of the 2020 hiatus caused by the pandemic. The fashion in which Manhattan knocked off their crosstown rivals was impressive too — first a header in the 90th minute by Adrien Awana in 2018, then a game-ending finish in overtime by Noah Amissah in 2019, and lastly an Oswald Annang goal in the 59th minute which proved to be the difference in 2021. Those games are a telltale sign of the growth of the program over the course of Scott's tenure.
From 2017-2021, Manhattan won 35 games on Scott's watch.
In 2018, Manhattan achieved a program-record 12 wins, including its highest non-conference winning percentage at .875. During that impressive run, the Kelly Green and White recorded its first win over a ranked opponent in program history (No. 25 Fordham). College Soccer News ranked Manhattan 30th in the nation for the week ending with September 23 after the win over Fordham. The United Soccer Coaches also had Manhattan in the East Region Poll Top 10 for seven weeks during the year, reaching as high as third. In addition, Manhattan received votes in the USC Top 25 National Poll for the first time in program history. The Jaspers defense recorded a program-best nine shutouts while only allowing a program-low 12 goals on the season.
In 2019, Adrien Awana became the first Manhattan player in over 20 years to earn back-to-back All-MAAC First Team honors. Additionaly, Berti Fourrier collected Second Team honors for the second-straight season under Scott's watch.
Scott guided the Jaspers to its second-most wins in program history in 2017, going 9-8-1 (6-3-1 MAAC). The team's six MAAC wins and 19 conference points are the most during his seven years in charge. Manhattan also advanced to the MAAC Tournament for the first time since 2015 and hosted its first-ever postseason match at Gaelic Park.
In that 2017 campaign, the Jaspers set then-program records for the fewest goals allowed (16) and tied the high mark with eight shutouts. Gohier became the program's first MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year and was named to the All-MAAC First Team. In addition, Lucas Da Silva and Luke Greaves were selected to the All-MAAC Second Team.
In his first year at the helm of the program in 2013, Scott was named MAAC Coach of the Year. He led the Jaspers to a 5-3-2 conference record and a top-four seed in the MAAC tournament for just the fifth time in program history, while reaching the postseason under the four-team format for the first time since 2001. The five MAAC victories also tied the program record, while the 17 points set a school record.
Manhattan dropped a heartbreaker in the semifinals to Monmouth via penalty kicks. Tommy Amos earned All-MAAC Second Team honors during the regular season while Daniel Festa and Jake Scavetta earned MAAC All-Tournament Team honors. Additionally, Andrew Melitsanopoulos notched a spot on the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
In 2016, Ryan Shields was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team while the Jaspers registered draws with NCAA participants Rider and Fordham.
During the 2015 season, Abraham Bartoah became Scott's first-ever All-MAAC First Team selection as the Jaspers defeated Saint Peter's in the opening round of the conference tournament before dropping a one-goal heartbreaker to MAAC Regular Season Champion Monmouth.
In 2014, Amos repeated on the All-MAAC team and was joined by Bartoah.
Scott has served as the Academy Director at Sports Domain Academy in Montclair, NJ and has coached within the organization since 2003. In this role, he trains players 18 years and under across the tri-state region. During his tenure at Sports Domain Academy, several of Scott's teams have earned state and national recognition. He coaches the Montclair Gauchos (U16 boys) who, in 2012, reached the U.S. Youth National Championships in Phoenix, after winning the New Jersey State Cup and capturing the Region 1 title with a dramatic 4-3 overtime win against Olney Maryland.
From 2004-2008, Scott worked as the Football for Life Program Director in Maun & Kasane, Botswana (Africa) training over 300 children ages 7 to 15 living in poverty.
In the United Kingdom, Scott was the head coach of the University of Glamorgan (First Team) from 2001-2003 which competed at an elite level within British University Sport. He also spent two years as the head coach of the men's and women's national teams at the University of Wales Athletic Union.
At the collegiate level, Scott was the team captain of the first team at University of Glamorgan and for Wales Universities. He also played five years (1993-97) as a youth professional with Ayr United FC in Scotland.
Scott earned his bachelor's degree in Sports Psychology from the University of Glamorgan in 2002, and gained his Masters in Organizational Leadership from Manhattan College in 2021. Scott holds a UEFA B coaching license and a NSCAA Premier Diploma.
