RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? The Manhattan College baseball team had its four game win streak snapped on Wednesday falling 10-9 to New York Institute of Technology (4-12) in Old Westbury, N.Y. The Bears rallied from five runs back to escape with a late inning comeback win. Manhattan sophomores Mike McCann, Mark Onorati and Chad Salem each homered and tallied multi-RBI contests.

McCann, the Jaspers' starting right fielder, led off the game with a solo home run to extend his hit streak to nine games. He has four home runs and seventeen RBI this season, and was just named the MAAC, ECAC and CollegeBaseballInsider.com Player of the Week for his hot hitting efforts last week.

Manhattan (9-7, 3-0) put up five more runs on five hits and one error in the third inning, before NYIT could get on the scoreboard. The surge featured Onorati's three run blast, driving in McCann and freshman third baseman Will DeRuve, and then Salem's solo shot.

Bears' sophomore third baseman Effrey Valdez retaliated in the bottom of the third with a two run RBI double into left center. Valdez hit 2-for-5 and scored two runs.

McCann pushed junior catcher Jamie Fitzgerald across the plate in the fourth inning, and then senior co-captain Ruben Perez notched a RBI double to right center in the top of the fifth to extend the Jaspers advantage to 8-2. Perez hit 4-for-5 and recorded two RBI.

NYIT put up three runs between the fifth and sixth innings, and the Jaspers scored on an error in the seventh to make it a 9-5 ballgame.

Manhattan was plagued by four errors and five hits resulting in four NYIT runs in the bottom of the eighth to even the game at 9-9. Then after Manhattan was held scoreless in the top ninth, Bears' junior outfielder Jerry Smith led off the bottom half of the inning with a lead off single and eventually scored the winning run on a Jaspers' error.

Manhattan starting right-hander Zac Goyer tossed four and two third innings, allowed just three hits and struck out five batters. NYIT sophomore reliever Jon Costa was credited the win after holding off the Jaspers in the ninth inning.

Manhattan returns to action on Friday in Loudonville versus Siena at 3 p.m.
