STONY BROOK, NY — Tuesday's opponent, the Stony Brook Seawolves (12-14, 1-5 CAA), jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, sending Manhattan to a 10-4 loss at Joe Nathan Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Seawolves' offense delivered the first word on Tuesday, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

First baseman Nico Azpilcueta drove in the first run of the game, plating Nick Zampieron on an RBI single.

After a pair of hit batters reached for Stony Brook, Manhattan center fielder Aidan Taclas robbed second baseman Brett Davino of a grand slam. Taclas' leap and extension was perfectly timed as he came down with the highlight-worthy catch in right field. A Seawolves' runner tagged up to score on the play to extend the lead to 2-0.

Three more unearned runs came around to score against Jacob Smoot following a throwing error and another base hit for Stony Brook.

The Manhattan offense broke through in the top of the fifth inning by plating three runs.

The Jaspers kicked off the fifth by loading the bases after second baseman Ryan Lordier singled, catcher Hunter Sute walked and first baseman Tyler Galletti singled.

Lordier would eventually score on a fielder's choice groundout from left fielder Nico Mattera, before center fielder Aidan Katzman did the same to plate Sute.

Manhattan's final run in the fifth was manufactured on a wild pitch from Vincent Mariella that scored Mattera.

With Manhattan trailing by seven runs in the ninth, Lordier worked a two-out walk to keep things alive before a double by pinch hitter Jeremy Sosa scored Lordier from first.

Ryan Lordier is 6-for-12 (.500) at the plate over his last three games and extended his hitting streak to as many games.

Lordier and Aidan Taclas are tied for the team-lead in batting average at .330, while Andreaus Lewis has hit to the tune of .329 for third best.

Manhattan pitching went by committee on Tuesday afternoon, with eight hurlers seeing action.

Joe Duffield started for Manhattan and pitched one scoreless frame before departing. Brant Vicini, Ryan McLaughlin and Joey Craska each threw one scoreless frame.
NEXT UP
This coming weekend, Manhattan (10-17, 5-7 MAAC) will return to the friendly confines of Naimoli Family Baseball Complex on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University. There, the Jaspers will play host to the Iona Gaels (9-17, 3-6 MAAC) with a three-game set on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on Friday is at 3 PM.
