HAMDEN, CT – In a see-saw type affair, the Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (9-16, 4-7 MAAC) held strong following a Bobcats of Quinnipiac University (13-11-1, 7-4 MAAC) comeback attempt, which saw the Green and White claim a 9-8 victory on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Jaspers jumped out of the starting gate with back-to-back one-out base knocks into the corners of the outfield. Andreaus Lewis provided a sacrifice fly into left field to drive home Guriyandel Salva for the first run to cross the plate early on.
- After the Bobcats put together its first run, Lewis once again sprayed a single to center to drive home Ryan Lordier to put the Jaspers back in front for the second time.
- In the top of the fourth, with the contest knotted at two and the bases loaded, Aidan Katzman worked a bases-loaded that brought Trevor Hansen home to retake the lead.
- After a pitching change, Salva knocked a single up the middle to drive home two more Jaspers to extend its lead to as much as three.
- Two innings later, in the visiting half of the sixth inning, Katzman led the inning with a single through the left side. Jeremy Sosa brought him home with a double into the gap in left-center field to double up Quinnipiac for the moment.
- A couple of batters later, Lordier brought home Jeremy Sosa from third, who advanced to the hot corner on a passed ball a batter earlier.
- Then, Aidan Taclas crossed the plate on a wild pitch to give Manhattan a game-high five-run advantage in a run-filled inning.
- Cutting the lead to just one, head coach Steven Rosen made a pitching change and turned the ball to Chris Fidanza, who locked down the Bobcats down the stretch.
- Manhattan tacked on an insurance tally, with Katzman tallying an infield single to third to bring home Hansen for the team's ninth and final run.
- With Quinnipiac on the ropes and hoping to rally following a lead-off double, Fidanza struck out the Bobcat pinch hitter.
- Manhattan surrendered two stolen bases and allowed one additional Bobcat run to narrow its lead to just one before stranding the tying run on third to take the middle game.
STATS AND NOTES
- As a team, the Jaspers logged its most hits of the 2025 campaign with 17.
- Manhattan sprayed a pair of two-baggers courtesy of Jeremy Sosa and Guriyandel Salva.
- Aidan Katzman, Ryan Lordier, and Guriyandel Salva each recorded three hits a piece. The trio logged a combined five runs batted in throughout the effort.
- Logging his second save of the season, Chris Fidanza recorded a game-high four strikeouts in three innings of work.
- Andreaus Lewis continues to pace the Green and White in batting average by adding another pair of RBIs on one base knock in the game.

You can tell the boys rallied around doing it for Preston, and that win was for him today. I am very proud of Andrew Brown, coming in on short notice and filled a big part of the game, as well as Chris Fidanza, who came in to get the last nine outs. Our offense continues to string quality at-bats together and is showing what we're capable of. Jobs are not finished, and our sets are set to take a series tomorrow."
