JERSEY CITY, NJ– The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (11-10, 5-7 MAAC) suffered a setback against the Peacocks of Saint Peter's University (7-14, 5-7) inside The Victor R. Yanitelli Recreational Life Center on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore guard Tegan Young logged the Jaspers' first field goal from distance to give Manhattan its first afternoon lead.
- The hot hands didn't stop, as graduate forward Ines Gimenez Monserrat added to the shots from downtown with another three-pointer.
- Early Peacock woes led to another three-pointer landing for junior guard Hana Muhl to give the Jaspers an 11-2 run to open the game.
- Early dominance set in as Petra Juric and Nitzan Amar added a pair of layups to extend Manhattan's lead to 13. Manhattan would officially open the game on a 17-2 run.
- Amar continued Manhattan's red-hot scoring with another three before the Peacocks turned the corner with a nine-to-nothing run.
- Gimenez-Monserrat momentarily stopped the Jaspers' bleeding with a three following Allana's three to extend Manhattan's back to four.
- Coming off of a career afternoon against Sacred Heart, sophomore forward Kristina Juric added her first layup of the game to make it a six-point advantage in the waning 90 seconds of the quarter.
- The Peacocks fired off a 16-3 run highlighted by a Saint Peter's triple midway through the third quarter to tie the contest at 36 before eventually advancing by five.
- Following a five-point Jasper deficit, Young swung the pendulum with a statement three to put Manhattan back in front by one with three minutes remaining in regulation. On the ensuing possession, Muhl added a floating jumper to give the Jaspers a three-point edge once more.
- With 38 seconds remaining, Saint Peter's Janneh logged her seventh and eighth point of the game, and added to the teams' 11-2 run to close the door on the comeback attempt for Manhattan.
STATS AND NOTES
- Senior forward Ines Gimenez Monserrat added 19 points to the ledger on six-of-14 from the floor. Four of the shots from the field were from distance. She also led the Jaspers from the charity stripe by converting three of five attempts. Gimenez-Monserrat also scooped five rebounds and added two assists in 34 minutes on the floor.
- Senior guard Nitzan Amar was the other Jasper to log double-digit points, with 11. The Israeli native added a team-high five assists and contributed five caroms.
- Sophomore Tegan Young added six rebounds and eight points but fouled out down the stretch in 24 minutes of game time.
- Manhattan won the defensive rebound battle +6 (32-26)
- The Jaspers also secured 11 bench points compared to the Peacocks' 10.
