EL PASO, TX – The Manhattan Jaspers softball team (0-4, 0-0 MAAC) dropped a pair of contests against the Miners of the University of Texas-El Paso (6-2, 0-0 C-USA) by a score of 8-0 and 10-0 in a pair of run-ruled games inside Helen of Troy Softball Complex on Day Two of the Dr. Diana Natalicio Memorial Tournament presented by Holiday Inn West-Sunland Park.
GAME 1
- In the first inning, freshman Angelina Gencarelli etched a one-out base hit to third base. For pitcher Karissa Spring, she punched out the Miners' Sepulveda, looking to end any further threat in the opening inning.
- In the bottom of the second inning, Spring again got in and out of trouble with a strikeout swinging and stranded a pair of Miners along the base path.
- Sophia Kiseloski opened the fourth inning with a leadoff single into right field.
GAME 2
- The Jaspers opened the game with back-to-back hits, led by Bella Cahueque and Sophia Kiseolski, who collected a pair in the opening inning.
- Senior Anissa Villalobos knocked a single into right field. The bases were left loaded following a ground-out to the opposing shortstop.
- Michayla Rodriguez logged a one-out base hit down the left-field line in the top of the third inning.
STATS AND NOTES
- Michayla Rodriguez added two hits during the backend of the doubleheader in three total plate appearances.
- Victoria Diaz logged a punch out in the second game against UTEP.
- Sophia Kiseloski and Angelina Gencarelli each added one hit in the afternoon's first game against the Miners.
