Riverdale, NY — Manhattan fell to Sacred Heart 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium in the MAAC opener. After taking a 2-1, the Jaspers dropped the final 2 sets to the Pioneers.
-Sacred Heart won the first set, 25-19. Manhattan committed 10 attack errors in the opening, and Sacred Heart produced 14 kills.
-The Jaspers continued their charge in the third set, taking it by a 25-19 score. Manhattan took a 5-1 lead before Sacred Heart stormed back to take an 8-7 lead. Manhattan responded with 8 straight points to take control of the set, and got a trio of kills during that run including two more from VanDyke and one from Laila Glover. Manhattan closed the set with 3 straight points, including a set-winning kill from Glover which clinched the 25-19 win.
-Manhattan was plagued by 9 more errors as Sacred Heart took the fourth set, 25-17.
-The Jaspers did not get off to the start they needed in the fifth set, dropping 11 of the first 14 points. The Pioneers would close out the match with a 15-7 win in the final set.
-Sacred Heart was led by 24 kills from Camryn Luginbuhl, and 23 digs from Miliani Villarreal. Manhattan was paced by 13 kills and 11 digs from Maike Bertens while Glover chipped in 11 kills and Sarah Emmons recorded 31 assists and 11 digs.
