RIVERDALE, N.Y. — The Battle of the Bronx proved to be another successful outing for Manhattan, as the Jaspers beat rival Fordham, 65-58, to extend the team's win streak to four games overall. Tegan Young poured in a career-high 20 points to ensure a Manhattan win over Fordham for the second year in a row.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Manhattan fell behind 12-2 as a result of cold shooting and some early turnovers.

Manhattan missed 6 of their first 7 field goal attempts before a three-pointer from Nitzan Amar at 3:06 whittled the deficit to seven.

A block from Kristina Juric was followed by a three from Tegan Young to start off her career night. Young's three brought the deficit to 12-8 with 2:30 left in the first quarter.

All told, counting back-to-back treys from Amar and Young, Manhattan closed the first quarter on a 10-0 run to knot the score at 12 apiece.

Manhattan's scoring run extended to 15-0 run following a three from Hana Muhl and a fastbreak lay-up from Amar to open the second quarter. That jumped the Jaspers' lead to 17-12, leaving Fordham scoreless for 8:32 of game time.

Fordham's next five points came from Amiyah Ferguson before a floater from Rose Nelson tied the score at 19 with 1:46 left in the second quarter.

With the Jaspers holding for the last shot, Muhl surveyed the court and found Davis whose three-pointer beat the buzzer at the end of the second quarter to send Manhattan into the half with a 24-21 lead.

After a three-pointer by Taylor Donaldson tied the score to open the third quarter, the Jaspers launched a 17-4 run led by Young and Ines Gimenez Monserrat. The duo combined for 16 of the Jaspers' 17 points which included two threes from Gimenez Monserrat and another triple from Young.

The Rams, however, used the three ball to get back into the game. Fordham registered four straight threes excluding Manhattan possessions, three of which came from Donaldson, to cut the Jaspers' lead to 47-44 with 9:01 left in the fourth quarter.

A steal from Young led to her finding Amar for a fastbreak lay-up that pushed the Manhattan lead back to five with 7:33 left to play.

Amar's lay-up kick started an 11-0 Manhattan run over the next four and a half minutes, giving the Jaspers a 14-point lead that wouldn't be relinquished.

Amar added five free throws in the final 48 seconds and Davis tacked on two more from the charity stripe to help settle the final scoreline.
STATS AND NOTES

Young's 20 points sets a career-high for the sophomore forward. Young previously set her career-high last season at Fordham when she scored 16 points in a 58-54 win at Rose Hill.

Manhattan shot 45 percent (9-20) from three with four from Young and a pair from Gimenez Monserrat. The nine triples are the most for Manhattan since connecting on 11 threes in the season-opening loss at Rutgers.

The Jaspers notched assists on 19 of the team's 23 made field goals vs. Fordham. Muhl led the way with five assists while Amar and Ozturk each added four assists.

Ozturk has three career games with four assists, including two in the last three games.

Manhattan's current four-game win streak is the program's best since rattling off five straight last January.

Kristina Juric recorded a career-high three blocks in tonight's win while also playing a career-high 19 minutes.

Given the men's 78-76 win over Fordham last Friday, Manhattan has swept the Battle of the Bronx for the first time since 2009.

Head coach Heather Vulin on overcoming Fordham's runs without Petra Juric available: "Both teams went on a run and battled to the very end so it was a great game. I'm really proud of my team on a day where we were without Petra. Tonight's game showed we had the depth to figure it out and the talent to survive not having her (Juric)."
Vulin on Young's career night: "I love Tegan Young. She's a really wonderful human being and tremendous basketball player who does things the right way. She's usually the first one in for practice to get extra shots and she's always working on her craft. For her to have that breakout game tonight I was super happy for her."
