Riverdale, NY — The margin of error against the MAAC's current standard-setter Fairfield was small from the get-go on Saturday at Gaelic Park. After a later start time than anticipated, Manhattan couldn't keep pace with Fairfield and suffered a 2-0 setback.

The Stags got on the board first with a goal from Maddy Theriault in the 41st minute, and doubled down on it when Reagan Klarmann converted on a second-chance opportunity in the 51st minute after Theriault's shot from 10 yards out hit the crossbar and bounced directly to Klarmann. Manhattan couldn't advance the ball as much as they needed to against Fairfield's defense and the Jaspers' legs seemed to catch up to them during their third game in 7 days.

Manhattan got outshot 20-6, but that didn't reflect the Jaspers' fight and their solid showing defensively despite getting caught out of position on the game's opening goal. The Stags came into this game with at least 4 goals in 5 games this season, but were not able to catch fire to that extent against the Jaspers. Fairfield did have a few posts and crossbars that didn't bounce their war in a game they mostly controlled in the midfield.  The Stags were rewarded with 16 corners on Saturday.

Next Time Out

Manhattan will look to avenge Saturday's loss when they play host to Rider (1-6-3, 0-3-2 MAAC) on Wednesday night at 7pm. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
