WASHINGTON D.C. – In a pitcher's duel, the Manhattan baseball team came up just short in the first game of its weekend series against George Washington, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon.

Manhattan falls to 6-14 while George Washington improves to 6-17.

GW got on the board first in the second inning, capitalizing on a leadoff double to bring the runner around two batters later on an RBI single. The other run came in the fifth inning, with the Buff and Blue once against utilizing a leadoff double and managing to bring him around.

Manhattan threatened in the seventh inning. The inning kicked off with Jacob Radziewicz reaching on an error, which was followed up by a Ryan Eaton single. Alfredo Delgado sacrificed to move the runners over while Ryan Ash drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Frankie Marinelli drew another walk to make the score 2-1. GW changed pitchers after that and was able to force Daniel Perez into grounding into a double play to end the inning.

Even though he takes the loss this afternoon, Will Hesslink turned in a quality start after tossing seven innings and striking out six members of the Buff and Blue.

The series wraps up tomorrow with a doubleheader, with the front half set to begin at 11 a.m.
