BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Manhattan women's basketball defeated LIU today at Steinberg Wellness Center, 66-55.
The Jaspers (7-3) dominated in the first half, leading by 12 points (33-21) advantage. Anne Bair collected 12 points and six assists, while Petra Juric added six points and five rebounds.
LIU (1-9) struggled in the first half where they scored 21 points. LIU shot 60 percent from the floor but that wasn't enough to stop the Jaspers.
"Excited to go into the holiday with a win. Loved having a balanced scoring attack and seeing Petra notching another double-double," said head coach Heather Vulin. "I also thought Anne had a tremendous first half and overall great game."
The Jaspers remained consistent throughout the game shooting 50 percent from the 3-point line and leading the game for 89.8 percent. Anne Bair led Manhattan, scoring 17 points, seven assists, and two steals. Nitzan Amar added 14 points, seven assists, and three rebounds. Petra Juric recorded another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
In the fourth quarter, LIU cut into the deficit scoring 16 points, but it wasn't enough to win the game. Ashley Austin led the Sharks finishing with 21 points and 8 assists. Nigeria Harkless added 16 points, three rebounds, and two steals.
Manhattan will travel to Long Island to play Hofstra University on Sunday, Dec. 31. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
