HARTFORD, Conn. – Manhattan and Hartford meet for a second doubleheader on Friday, splitting the two games.
Hartford (7-7) won the first game before Manhattan (2-12) picked up a one-run win in the second.
Game 1: Hartford 6, Manhattan 3
Both the Hawks and Jaspers picked up a run in the first inning.
Manhattan got an RBI single from
Annie Moore with one away. Moore brought in
Lauren Rende, who led off the game with a single up the middle. Hartford's two hits came with two out. Samantha Ganaden doubled, then Kelsey Galevich singled to tie the game.
The Jaspers took a 3-1 lead with two in the third.
Megan Gillooley doubled to lead off the inning, then Rende walked. After two steals put runners at second and third, an RBI ground out, and a sacrifice fly gave the Jaspers the two runs.
A four-run fifth for the Hawks was the difference. A double and a single started the bottom of the fourth. Olivia Wolk brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Hawks scored via a wild pitch and an error before Samantha Nagel doubled to conclude the scoring for the inning.
WOLK added the sixth and final run for the Hawks with an RBI single.
Mollie Charest,
Marika Deemer, and
Gabi Mills appeared in the circle for the Jaspers. Gillooley and Moore finished with two hits.
Game 2: Manhattan 3, Hartford 2
Jessie Rising picked up her second win of the season, and Manhattan survived a seventh-inning threat from Hartford to collect the win.
Rising tossed a complete game three-hitter while striking out eight. Hartford managed single runs in the first and seventh innings.
Annie Moore tied the game in the third with an RBI single to center. It was Moore's team-leading 10
th RBI of the season.
Gabriella Mazzotta gave the Jaspers the lead in the top of sixth that brought in Moore. Manhattan added an insurance run, which would be necessary, in the top of the seventh off a homer from
Vani Patel.
Hartford got back-to-back one-out doubles from Haley Cassidy and Emma Curry. Curry's double brought in Cassidy. Rising was able to strand Cassidy at second by getting a flyout and strikeout to end the game.
On Sunday, the Jaspers are back in action at Gaelic Park against Wagner with a doubleheader starting at noon.
