Manhattan Splits Doubleheader With Canisius

Junior Annie Moore (Northridge, CA / El Camino Real) rapped out four hits on the day, while graduate student Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North) and sophomore Lauren Rende (Ardsley, NY / Ardsley) each homered in leading Manhattan to a doubleheader split with Canisius.

The Jaspers are now 6-4, while the Golden Griffins are 3-5.

Game Two
Manhattan scored six unanswered runs in posting a 6-2 victory over Canisius in game two.

Trailing 2-0 in the third, Rende put the Jaspers on the scoreboard with a solo home run, before tying it up one inning later on sophomore Kaitlyn Flood's (Southbury, CT / Pomperaug) RBI single.

In the fifth, Moore put the Green & White up for good with a RBI double, before scoring on sophomore Marika Deemer's (Perrysburg, OH / Perrysburg) sacrifice fly that extended the lead out to 4-2.

Gebhardt provided a pair of insurance runs in the sixth with a two-run shot that chased home senior Victoria Alonso (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland), went 4-for-6 with four runs, two RBI and a stolen base,

Senior Jessie Rising (Little Egg Harbor, NJ / Pinelands) earned the win, yielding two runs, on just three hits, with three strikeouts over 6.2 innings in improving to 2-1 on the year.

Game One
Canisius defeated Manhattan 10-0 in five innings.

Moore registered both Jasper hits in the game.

The teams will conclude their doubleheader tomorrow at 11:00 am.
