Riverdale, NY - Manhattan celebrated Senior Day with a hard-fought 48-44 win in completing a doubleheader sweep of Iona at Draddy Gymnasium.
Junior Dee Dee Davis (Bronx, NY / Preston) scored 11 of her game-high 18 points in the decisive fourth quarter in helping the Jaspers improve to 10-6 and 9-3 in the MAAC, while the Gaels fall to 4-7 and 3-5 in the league..
Davis hit back-to-back triples to open the fourth-quarter scoring for the Jaspers, before tying it up at 39-39 thanks to splitting a pair from the charity stripe with 3:25 remaining in the game.
Graduate student Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) followed by splitting a pair of her own, before senior Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) hit a layup and three free throws to give Manhattan what would prove to be an insurmountable 45-39 lead with 44 seconds to play.
The visitors would get to within two at 46-44 with 11.1 seconds to play, only to be denied when Davis hit two huge free throws from the line to put the game on ice.
