Manhattan falls to 9-12 overall and 6-6 in the conference, while Siena earns its fourth-straight win and improves to 7-13 and 5-6 in MAAC play.
Highlights:
- Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) earned a season-high 12 rebounds, including seven on the defensive glass, to lead all players in Thursday's game. She was assisted on the boards by Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) who added 11 rebounds of her own. Manhattan out-rebounded the Saints 42-33, marking the first time this season the Jaspers have lost when out-rebounding their opponent.
- Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) led the Jasper offense with 10 points, the 16th time this season the freshman has scored in double-figures and the 12th time she has led the team in scoring. Høier and Warley both contributed eight points.
- Warley came away with a season-high (tied) five steals on the day, a game-high. Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) also tied her season-high of four steals in the game. As a team, the Jaspers earned a season-high 15 steals.
- Manhattan forced 23 turnovers from the Saints, but committed 22 over their own in the game.
- Siena's defense stymied Manhattan in the first quarter, where the Jaspers shot just 18.8 percent from the floor with three field goals, allowing the Saints to take a 14-10 lead. The second quarter did not improve for Manhattan, as the Jaspers went 0-5 from three in the stanza, as well as 0-5 from the foul line, giving Siena an eight-point lead at halftime that Manhattan could not climb back from.
- The Jaspers committed 21 fouls in the game, sending the Saints to the line for 24 attempts. The Saints went 19-24 from the line, while Manhattan went 7-12 on the other end.
- After today's game, Warley now has 597 rebounds for her career, three away from tying with Caitlin Flood (2004-2008) for 15th on the program's all-time list. With one block in the game, Warley, who is fifth on the program's all-time blocks list, is one away from 100 for her career. She is also 25 steals away from tying Michelle Pacheco (2006-10) on the program's all-time steals list.
- Cajou needs just four assists to tie Joann Nwafili (2004-08) for 15th on that all-time list. She is also 12 steals away from 15th in program history.
Manhattan travels to Marist for the second-meeting of the two teams this season on Saturday, February 8. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 pm.
