Spartanburg, SC -
Presbyterian defeated Manhattan 7-6 in 10 innings at Russell C. King Field.

The Blue Hose improve to 2-5, while the Jaspers fall to 1-5.

Both teams were stifled on offense over the first four innings, with each starting pitcher retiring 10 in a row at one point. Senior RHP Jacob Knight (Oakley, CA / Chabot CC) yielded a two-out double in the first, before settling down and retiring the next 10 batters.

The Manhattan offense then finally struck with two runs in the fifth inning. Sophomore Jonathan Barditch (Miami, FL / Belen Jesuit Prep) led off with a walk, before coming around to score thanks to three wild pitches. Junior Will Trochiano (Morganville, NJ / Marlboro) capped the scoring in the inning, by chasing home classmate Jake Knop (Portland, ME / Portland) with a RBI single.

Unfortunately, Presbyterian would answer immediately as Hunter Grover hit a grand slam to spark a six-run outburst in the bottom part of the frame.

Manhattan would rally with fourth runs to pull even at 6-6, thanks to batting around in the top of the seventh. Freshman Alfredo Delgado (Bronx, NY / Fordham Prep) led off with a walk, before sophomore Sam Franco (Bardonia, NY / Clarkstown South) and Trochiano followed with singles to load the bases. Sophomore Nick Cimillo (Airmont, NY / Suffern) was then plunked to force in Delgado. Junior Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) followed with his second hit of the day, a two-run single, to score Franco and Trochiano. Barditch then delivered a two-out, RBI single to bring around Padre.

Unfortunately, the Jasper bats went silent from that point and Graham Mitchell delivered a game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning.

Trochiano was 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and a walk, while Padre went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run to lead the Manhattan offense.

Junior RHP Teddy Sabato (Rye Brook, NY / UNC) struck out three over 3.1 innings of one-run relief in being saddled with the loss.

Grover was 2-for-4 with a grand slam to pace Presbyterian, with Austin Paradis tossing 3.0 perfect innings to collect the win.

Manhattan will next play at Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Friday, February 28 at 7:30 pm.
