Manhattan improves to 11-14 overall this year and 8-8 in the MAAC, while Canisius falls to 3-21 an 2-13 in the conference.
Highlights:
- Warley added 12 rebounds to her night's performance, earning her sixth double-double of the season and her second in as many games. She now has 648 career rebounds, giving her sole possession of 11th place on the program's all-time list.
- Warley's 17 first half points, including all 11 of Manhattan's points in the second quarter, forced Canisius to over-defend her, allowing the Jaspers to take advantage of offensive production from Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) in the second half of the game. Høier tied her career scoring-high with 16 points on 8-13 shooting for the night. She scored 10-straight points in the third quarter alone, keeping the Jaspers afloat in a down-to-the-wire battle.
- Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy), who earned a career-high of her own (25) against Canisius in Draddy earlier this year, added 12 to the Jasper offense Thursday night, along with a team-high four assists and two steals.
- Manhattan held an 11-point lead over the Griffs at the end of the first quarter, shooting nearly 53 percent in the opening stanza. But Canisius quickly widdled that advantage down to one, kicking-off the second quarter with a 10-point run.
- The Griffs overtook the lead halfway through the second, and extended it to three with 3:32 to play in the half. Warley then individually went on a 9-6 run of her own to pull Manhattan even with Canisius at the halftime break.
- The Jaspers never trailed again, as Høier went on a tear, scoring 14 of her 16 points in the second half. Warley pulled down seven rebounds in the second half, as well, including six of her 10 defensive boards.
- Hitting just one three for the game, Manhattan scored 40 points in the paint, while allowing just 18 points in the key for the Griffs on the other end.
- The Jaspers forced 18 turnovers from Canisius, scoring 14 points off TOs and earning seven steals as a team.
- Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) tied both her season scoring-high (eight points) and her career blocks-high (four) in the game, adding three assists and two steals. Miceus now has 64 blocks for her career and is one away from tying for 12th place all-time.
- With two assists in the game, Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) surpassed Julie Brown (1982-84) to jump into 14th place on that all-time list. Cajou is now three assists away from 13th.
