Manhattan Returns To MAAC Play At Siena

 Manhattan (4-3; 1-0 MAAC) returns to league play at Siena (3-2; 1-0 MAAC) on Saturday, March 16 at 1:00 pm. 

The Tick Tock
* Manhattan posted an impressive 11-8 win over Hartford last week, before dropping a hard-fought game by an 8-5 count to a stout UMass Lowell squad.
* Junior Luke Hanson had another impressive week, registering two goals and six assists.
* Juniors Trevor Pelletier and Brandon Grinnell each netted hat tricks in the victory over the Hawks.
* Sophomore Jake Nicolosi scored twice against UMass Lowell while classmate Sean MacKinney added three assists.
* Classmate Brendan Krebs averaged 15.0 saves per game with a 65.2 save percentage in the aforementioned two games.
* Sophomore Luke Pacher was outstanding against UMass Lowell, helping fuel an impressive defensive effort that saw the Jaspers hold Cory Highfield, the River Hawks' leading scorer, without a goal.

Man-Down Defense Still Pretty Good
* One year after pacing the Division I ranks in man-down defense, Manhattan is back at it again and ranks fifth at 82.4 percent, killing off 14-of-17 EMO opportunities.

All Clear
* The Jaspers are second nationally in clearing the ball, checking with an 89.3 percent success rate.

Getting Defensive
* Manhattan is 21st in the nation, yielding a MAAC-low 10 goals per game.

Lending A Helping Hand
* Hanson ranks 11th nationally with a MAAC-leading 2.57 assists per game and has handed out at least two five times.
* He now ranks eighth in program history with 45 career assists.

Leading The Way
* Krebs paces the MAAC with a .554 save percentage.

With A Win ... 
* The Jaspers would defeat Siena for the first time since besting the Saints by an 8-7 count on April 22, 2006 while snapping a 13-game losing streak to the school in the process.

The Series
* Siena owns a 14-8 advantage in the all-time series.

Last Year Against The Saints
* Siena won by a 15-12 count, despite a career-high five goals from Hanson and three scores and three assists from senior Parker Giarratana.

* Head Coach Drew Kelleher served as an assistant coach at Siena in 2012, helping the Saints post an 11-5 record en route to the MAAC Regular Season Championship.

* The Jaspers are 2-1 in one-goal games.

Nice Memory 
* Manhattan's win over Hartford came exactly 15 years to the day of the Jaspers' first victory over the Hawks, a 14-7 triumph on March 5, 2004.

Jaspers Take Down Bryant
* Manhattan earned its first-ever win over Bryant by a 9-8 count, while rallying from deficits of four goals in the second and two in the fourth.
* The Bulldogs had outscored the Jaspers 48-20 in three previous match-ups, including posting a 17-3 win in Head Coach Drew Kelleher's first game in 2016.
* Hanson handed out a career-high four assists, including aiding on the game-winner, with one goal.
* Over the final 5:05, the defense yielded just one shot attempt and forced five turnovers to clinch the win.
* Hanson also added a career-high seven ground balls.
* Manhattan ripped off five-straight goals in 11-plus minutes, which bridged the end of the second quarter and the beginning of third. 
* Grinnell added two goals and two assists while Pelletier also had a pair of scores to round out the multi-goal performers.
* The Jaspers forced 22 turnovers, killed off both Bulldog extra-man opportunities and held the Bulldogs to just 3-for-7 on fourth-quarter clear attempts.
* Junior Kelson Borisenko paced the defense with three ground balls while also causing four turnovers.
* Krebs made eight saves in earning his third win.

Manhattan Defeats SBU In MAAC Lidlifter
* The Jaspers opened league play with a 15-12 win over the Bonnies thanks to a balanced attack that featured nine different goal scorers.
* The 15 goals represent the most since a 20-5 win over Wagner on April 3, 2012.
* MacKinney scored a team-high three goals with two assists in the win over St. Bonaventure after recording two scores and an assist against Lafayette.
* Senior Robert Carroll was 20-for-29 from the faceoff X with a career-high 13 ground balls against the Bonnies while Krebs made six of his nine saves in the fourth quarter.
* Freshman Liam Walshe scored the first two goals of his Manhattan career.
* It was also the Jaspers' first league-opening victory since besting VMI on March 26, 2011.

Giarratana Named MAAC Offensive Player Of The Week
* Giarratana collected MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, after leading the Jaspers to an 11-10 season-opening win against Wagner. He earned the award after scoring four goals with two assists and five ground balls.

Giarratana In The School Rankings
* The Sunshine State native is fourth in school history with 91 career goals, fifth with 52 assists and fifth with 143 points.
* For his career, Giarratana also has four five-goal performances, three four-score outings and eight hat tricks.

Krebs Named MAAC Defensive Player Of The Week
* Krebs made his first career victory a memorable one, turning away 13 saves in the Jaspers aforementioned victory over Wagner. The second-year netminder also collected four ground balls in posting a .565 save percentage.

* Manhattan's victory over Wagner represented just the fourth time in program history that the Jaspers won their season opener.

The Faceoff X
* Carroll is now 81-for-149 (.544) on faceoffs with a team-leading 32 ground balls.

The Returners 
* The Jaspers boast a roster of 42 student-athletes, including 33 returning letterwinners and nine starters in 2019.

Parker Garners Preseason All-MAAC Accolades
* Giarratana was cited by Inside Lacrosse and the MAAC as a preseason all-league selection.

* A two-time All-MAAC Second Team honoree, the Sunshine State native registered 23 goals, a career-high 23 assists and a personal-best 46 points in 2018.
* His 1.64 assists per game ranked fourth in the MAAC, while his 23 assists are the most by a Manhattan student-athlete since Eugene Tanner in 2005, and tied for the sixth-most in a single season.

* Kelleher welcomes nine student-athletes into the program in 2019.

* Justin Otto '06 was inducted into the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame this past November, while the 2002 MAAC Championship team earned special recognition.
