The loss moves the Jaspers to 1-1 in MAAC play and 8-2 overall. The Peacocks improve to the same conference record and 4-5-1 on the season.
Both teams were playing with 10 men on the pitch at the end of the game. Manhattan keeper Marcellin Gohier (Nantes, France / CENS) was sent off in the 59th minute for touching the ball with his hand outside of the box to make a play. On the other side, Saint Peter's' Anton Moore was ejected with 14 minutes left in regulation for receiving his second yellow card of the match.
The Jaspers will look to rebound on Wednesday, October 3 when they cap off the light homestand against Siena at 7:00 pm.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore netminder Micheal Kennedy (Yonkers, NY / Fordham Prep) made his collegiate debut to replace Gohier and notched his first career save on the ensuing Peacock direct kick from 20 yards out on the play. He made two saves on the evening.
- Manhattan's nine shots on goal are the second-most in a game this season.
- The Jaspers had the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.
- Since last season, Manhattan has not allowed more than one goal against conference foes.
- Saint Peter's was held to nine shots, the seventh time this year the Jaspers held an opponent under double digits in the category.
FIRST HALF
- Senior forward Lucas Da Silva (West Palm Beach, FL / Palm Beach Atlantic) registered the first shot of the game in the fifth minute, slicing a right-footed shot into the hands of Peacock goalie Jason Dubrovich.
- Junior midfielder Milan Devuyst (Ostend, Belgium / ODU) made a nice defensive play to strip a Peacock and gain a possession that led to a Da Silva shot in the eighth minute.
- Manhattan has three shots denied in the 13th minute when junior forward Noah Amissah (London, England / Orleans Park) and Devuyst had attempts blocked, the latter of which hit the post. Freshman midfielder James Cotter (Wigan, England / Hawkley Hall) tried to cap it, but a Peacock defender made the save on the end line.
- Gohier made his first save in the 23rd minute on a slow-rolling shot from Torino.
- Reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Adrien Awana (Bordeaux, France / University of Bordeaux) made two impressive defensive plays with three minutes left until halftime, heading out a corner attempt then blocking a shot.
SECOND HALF
- Awana had a tricky re-direct off a Da Silva corner three yards away that Dubrovich corralled in the 61st minute.
- In the 72nd minute, sophomore midfielder Desmond Cole (Aurora, CO / Cherokee Trail) expertly slipped past two defenders on the right side to enter the box and launch a shot, only to have it saved.
- Manhattan almost equalized in the 81st minute when junior defender Angee Komano (Toulouse, France / Université Montpellier) crossed the ball from the left corner right onto sophomore forward Berti Fourrier's (Marseille, France / IFC Marseille) head, but another Peacock sent it away on the end line.
- The Jaspers had two shots from Cotter and Awana in the final 10 seconds that were blocked and saved, respectively.
