Manhattan set personal bests and school records in the NYU Fall Invitational on Friday, highlighted by excellent performances from freshmen Lexington Passamonte (Rochester, NY / Greece Athena), Connor Marshall (West Hartford, CT / Avon Old Farms) and Tommy Courtney (Thornwood, NY / Archbishop Stepinac).
Passamonte continued to trailblaze women's diving with a personal best and a new record in the three-meter with a score of 246.15 in the NYU Fall Invitational on Friday evening. She also shattered the four year-old one-meter record once held by Marylynn McMahon '14, tallying a 228.15 in the event. She capped her weekend with a third-place showing on the three-meter board in the tri-meet against Sacred Heart and Holy Cross held on Saturday.
The men's divers accomplished feats with their placing over the weekend. Marshall had two third-place finishes on Friday night, setting personal-highs in the one- and three-meter dives at 197.70 and 187.12, respectively. On Saturday, he took home first in both dives against the Crusaders' Sam Devine.
Courtney was right behind Marshall in every event over the weekend, recording personal-best 182.33 and 159.83 in the one- and three-meter attempts on Friday and earning second place in his Saturday dives.
On Saturday, the men's swimming team lost to Holy Cross by 15 points, while the women's side fell to both the Crusaders and the Sacred Heart Pioneers.
The Jaspers turn their attention to Senior Day on Saturday, November 17 as Manhattan hosts Monmouth and Siena in a MAAC matchup at Fieldston High School. The Kelly Green and white will honors nine seniors that will graduate from the program following the 2018-19 season.
MEN'S SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Timothy Valentine (Massapequa, NY / Chaminade) won the 100 Breast in 1:01.18 and the 200 Breast thanks to a season-best 2:17.38.
- Sophomore Andre van Huyssteen (Paarl, South Africa / Paarl Boys) won gold in the 50 Free with a season-best time of 22.15 seconds.
- Freshman Branden Deiss (Benoni, South Africa / Crawford College Lonehill) took home two individual titles in the 500 Free (4:53.64) and 1000 Free (personal-best 10:05.66)
- Junior Tyler Dalton (East Stroudsburg, PA / Pocono Mountain East) was top-three in three different heats, most notabliy with his silver-madel mark in the 200 IM at 2:05.35.
- an Huyssteen, Valentine, sophomores Derek Lederer (Blauvelt, NY / Tappan Zee) and Charles Ledda (New Fairfield, CT / New Fairfield) teamed up to win the 400 Medley Relay in 3:42.90.
WOMEN'S SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Sarah Hamilton wasthe top Jasper and the silver-medal recipient in the 1000 Free with her personal-best time at 1:14.43.
- Junior Kesley Eastman (Effort, PA / Wagner) collected third place with a 25.38-second time in the 50 Free.
- Freshman Jamie Quinn (Fairfax, VA / WT Woodson), senior Morgan Fountain (Chesire, CT / Chesire), junior Klaudia Nagrabska (Belmont, MA / Belmont) and Eastman combined to record a third-place mark in the 400 Medley Relay in 4:14.98.
- In the 200 Free Relay, Eastman, sophomore Miranda Gonzalez (Hicksville, NY / Sacred Heart Academy), Hamiton and junior Kali Nembach (Lynbrook, NY / Lynbrook) swam in 1:43.96 to finish third.
