Jaspers Travel To Albany For Mid-Week Match-Up

Albany, NY - Manhattan women's basketball heads to the state capital this week to take on the Great Danes of UAlbany on Wednesday, November 14.

Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., and will be broadcasted on ESPN+

Last Outing
Manhattan (1-1) fell to St. Francis Brooklyn 73-65 on the road Saturday, November 10. St. Francis Brooklyn shot 52.4 percent for the game and 60 percent from three, while the Jaspers earned a field goal percentage of 34.2 percent and went 12-39 from beyond the arc. Manhattan led for more than 21 minutes in a game that saw six ties and four lead changes.

The Jaspers out-rebounded the Terriers 38-36, including 20-4 on the offensive boards, with Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) and Julie Hoier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) each grabbing five offensive rebounds. Manhattan also nabbed 11 steals to St. Francis Brooklyn's six.

Top Performers
Three players scored in double-figures for the Jaspers, including freshman D'yona Davis (Bronx, NY / Truman) who earned a team-high 13 points, her first collegiate double-digit scoring performance. Warley paced the Jasper rebounding effort, grabbing nine boards. She also scored all of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to keep the Jaspers within reach of St. Francis Brooklyn throughout the final period, including hitting her first collegiate three-pointer. 

Meet the Danes
Last season, the Great Danes posted a 24-8 overall clip, marking the program's seventh consecutive year with 20-plus wins. Their 24 wins earned the program its seventh postseason appearance with a bid to the WNIT Tournament. 

UAlbany is 0-2 to the start the season, the first for Head Coach Colleen Mullen. The Great Danes' offense is led by Amanda Kantzy, who is averaging 8.5 points per game and 32.5 minutes played. In two games played, UAlbany has been out-rebounded 92-62, with Kanzty averaging six boards per game. 

Last Meeting
Manhattan and UAlbany last met on December 6, 2017 at Draddy Gymnasium. The Danes took the match-up 62-56. The Jaspers outscored UAlbany 22-16 in the paint for the game. But Manhattan was outrebounded on the offensive end 14-8. The Jaspers also gave UAlbany 24 free throw opportunities, and the Great Danes converted 16. Manhattan shot just 11 foul shots, hitting eight.

Series History
Manhattan is 1-2 all-time against UAlbany. Prior to last year, the two teams had last met in November 2010, with Manhattan falling to the Great Danes in the final seconds of the game. The Jaspers first met UAlbany in 1999, winning 74-56.
