Brooklyn, NY - LIU Brooklyn defeated Manhattan 11-2 in midweek action at the LIU Brooklyn Baseball Field.

The Blackbirds improve to 6-10 while the Jaspers fall to 5-14.

LIU Brooklyn jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after five inning before Manhattan made its first push offensive push of the game.

Senior Matt Forlow (Cold Spring, NY / Haldane) worked a walk before sophomore Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) reached via a bunt single. Senior Jason Patnick (Hopewell, NJ / Hopewell Valley) then loaded the bases up with a successful sacrifice bunt while reaching safely on a fielder's choice. Freshman Dominic Palma (Hilton, NY / Hilton) and sophomore Fabian Pena (Miami, FL / Calusa Prep) each followed with RBI ground outs in trimming the deficit to 5-2.

Unfortunately, that would be as close as the visitors would get as the Blackbirds extended the lead out to 9-2 before the Jaspers threatened in the eighth. Manhattan loaded up the bases with two outs but were unable to get anything across.

LIU Brooklyn added two runs in providing the final 11-2 score.

Forlow led a four-hit Jasper offensive attack with two walks and a run.

Freshman RHP Nick Massa (Shrewsbury, NJ / Red Bank Regional) was impressive on the mound, striking out two over 2.0 hitless frames.

Edward Mojica went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to pace the Blackbirds while William Jackson struck out eight over 6.0 innings of work in earning the win.

Manhattan returns to action on Saturday, April 1 with a 1:30 pm doublehaeder against Siena.
