Newark, NJ - After scoring just two goals over the first three matches, Manhattan erupted for three goals over the first 24-plus minutes and never looked back en route to posting a 4-0 victory over NJIT at Lubetkin Field.
The three goals mark the first time since a 5-0 win over Holy Cross on September 28, 2007 that the Jaspers found the back of the net three times before the break.
Four different student-athletes found the back of the net for Manhattan, which improves to 3-1 for the first time since the 2008 season while the Highlanders fall to 2-2.
Junior Lizzy Carlson (Auburn, MA / Auburn) notched what would prove to be her second-straight game-winning goal off a cross from senior Emily Ude (Babylon, NY / North Babylon) in the 11th minute.
Ude then added a goal of her own in the 15th minute before junior Erica Modena (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) registered the third goal of the half in the 25th minute.
The halftime break would do nothing to quell the Manhattan momentum as junior Tara Teal (Delmar, NY / Bethlehem) lofted one over the goaltender in extending the advantage out to 4-0.
Senior Kristen Skonieczny (Lagrangeville, NY / Arlington) made three saves in just over 41 minutes of action in moving to 3-1 on the year.
The Jaspers return to action at Lafayette on Sunday, September 6 with opening kick slated for 1:00 pm.
Notes:
* With the win, Manhattan is now 3-0, all-time, against NJIT while outscoring the Highlanders 9-0 during that time.
* The four goals are the most since the Jaspers defeated Saint Peter's 4-2 in last year's finale.
* It also marks the third time during Brendan Lawler's six-year tenure that Manhattan has scored at least four goals in a match with all three coming against New Jersey-based institutions.
* The Jaspers have not allowed a goal in seven of their eight halves of action this year.
