West Long Branch - Monmouth clinched a top-two seed for the upcoming Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships with a 1-0 win over Manhattan on the Great Lawn.
With the victory, the Hawks improve to 12-2-2 and 8-1-0 in the MAAC while the Jaspers see their school-record seven-match unbeaten streak snapped in falling to 9-4-2 and 5-1-2 in the league.
In defeat, senior Kristen Skonieczny (Lagrangeville, NY / Arlington) notched another solid performance, registering five saves.
Playing against the top offensive unit in the MAAC, Manhattan played Monmouth to a scoreless draw until the 79th minute when Rachael Ivanicki blasted in what would prove to be the lone goal of the match off of a rebound of Erica Murphy's blocked shot.
Freshman Nicole Copping (Blue Point, NY / Bayport-Blue Point) came close to answering in the 82nd minute only to see her shot snared by Sydney Lavan.
Monmouth outshot Manhattan 13-3, including 6-2 on goal, and had an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks.
The Jaspers return to action at Marist on Saturday, October 24 with first kick slated for 7:00 pm.
