Hamden, CT - Junior Erica Modena (Massapequa, NY / Massapequa) fired a shot from the right side into the upper left corner of the goal in the 95th minute to give Manhattan a thrilling 1-0 win over Quinnipiac at the QU Soccer Field.
With the victory, the Jaspers improve to 9-3-1 and remain the lone undefeated team in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) at 5-0-1 while the Bobcats fall to 6-7-0 and 2-4-0 in the league.
Modena scored her team-leading 10th goal just over four minutes into overtime following a perfect touch pass from junior Lizzy Carlson (Auburn, MA / Auburn). After receiving the offering, Modena dribbled down the right side before firing a shot into the upper left corner past the keeper for her fourth game-winner of the season.
Carlson's assist also marked the sixth time this season the reigning MAAC Player of the Week has scored or assisted on a game-winning score.
Reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week senior Kristen Skonieczny (Lagrangeville, NY / Arlington) made three saves in moving to 8-2-1 and in the process matched both her own single-season (8) and the career (22) Manhattan record for wins in a season. Additionally, she set the for shutouts in a season with her seventh.
Quinnipiac outshot the visitors 8-6, including posting a 3-1 advantage on shots on goal.
The Jaspers return to action on Saturday, October 17 against Rider with first kick slated for 1:00 pm. Prior to the match the six Manhattan seniors will be recognized.
