POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Jaspers dropped a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game to the Marist Red Foxes, 13-8, on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, Manhattan falls to 2-12 on the season, including 0-6 in conference play.
Jamie Romano, Allison Gionta and Tierney Larson netted the first three goals of the contest for the Red Foxes to put Marist up 3-0 just 5:59 into the first half. Manhattan junior Donna Jo DiNorcia halted the opening run with a goal just over four minutes later to make it 3-1.
Gionta led all players with seven points (5G, 2A) in the game. Romano also had a big offensive day for the Red Foxes, recording a hat trick. Seven different Marist players scored goals on the afternoon.
The Jaspers fought hard, but were never able to shrink the deficit to less than two goals, trailing by scores of 3-1, 5-3 and 7-5 later in the meeting.
For Manhattan, three players did all of the scoring. DiNorcia and sophomore Stefanie Ranagan notched three goals apiece. Senior Kelsey Rehain put two past Marist netminder Abigail Witczak.
Defensively, Rehain and junior defender Caitlin Hynes collected three ground balls each. Hynes was the lone Jasper credited with a caused turnover on the day. Junior starting goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli picked up three ground balls and made 10 saves in the game.
Manhattan returns to action on the evening of Saturday, April 19, for Senior Day at Gaelic Park. The Jaspers will battle the Niagara Purple Eagles at 5 p.m. Prior to the game, seniors Maria Toscano, Carly Eskenazi, Clare Kerrisk, Rehain and Brianna Rickert will be recognized for their achievements. The contest also marks Manhattan's penultimate MAAC game of the season.
