South Orange, N.J. (April 9, 2008) ? The Manhattan College Softball team fell to Seton Hall University today in a non-conference doubleheader. The Lady Jaspers fell 8-0 in the first game followed by a 5-0 nothing loss in the second. Freshman Nicole Michel kept her consistent hitting going as she finished 1-3 on the day, recording Manhattan's only hit in the second game.
In the first game, the Pirates were the first to score as they put up two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Manhattan could not come up with an answer for them as they scored another six runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-0 lead. Despite a 1-2 performance from Devon Gustafson, Jaclyn Churilla and Amanda Genovese, the Manhattan offense could not get going and dropped the first game.
The second game, the Lady Jaspers kept it a little closer as Seton hall put up only one run in the first four innings. But the bottom of the fifth allowed the Pirates to score four more runs. The deficit proved to be too much as the Lady J's were swept by Seton Hall.
Allison Smith pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in the first game as struck out two and allowed no hits. Smith started the second game on the mound as she went 3.0 innings giving up one earned run off of three hits and striking out one.
The Lady Jaspers will return to action on Friday, April 11 as they will travel to take on local rival Fordham University. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
