Baseball Generates 17 Hits On Way to 14-6 Win Vs. Sacred Heart

Riverdale, N.Y. (April 16, 2008) ?  With a potent offense that generated 17 hits, the Manhattan College baseball team defeated Sacred Heart 14-6 today in a non-conference game played at Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn. 

 The Jaspers also took advantage of seven walks and three errors to move their season record to 15-15-1 overall

 

Jasper shortstop Ruben Perez had three hits for the Jaspers, including a double and his second homer of the season. He drove in three runs. Marc Giordano had a pair of hits and his fourth homer of the year, while driving in four runs.   Kevin Nieto, who went 2 for 2, had 3 RBIs and 2 walks, extended his hitting streak to 15 games.  Eric Nieto (3 for 4) and Mark Onorati (2 for 5) also had a multi-hit game for the Jaspers.

 

Manhattan freshman right-hander Kyle Waddell went the first four innings to grab his first win of the season. He blanked the Pioneers on three hits during his starting stint.

Breaking the game open early, Manhattan went up by a 9-0 score after five innings before Sacred Heart scored two in the bottom of the fifth.  Then the Jaspers scored three more runs in the top of the sixth, two in the top of the seventh and one in the ninth to breathe easy.

Manhattan's next takes on nearby conference rival Iona College this weekend at home.  There's a doubleheader slated to start at noon Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park and a single game at noon on Sunday.
