RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Manhattan College freshman back Devon Lutz delivered the game winning goal for the Lady Jaspers in the 33^rd minute, propelling the squad to a 2-0 victory over Saint Peter's (3-7, 0-1 MAAC) this evening at Gaelic Park. Megan Lavecchia followed with the first goal of her collegiate career in the 37^th minute, assisted by junior teammate Alexandra Konneker. Manhattan (4-4-1, 1-0 MAAC) outshot the Peahens 35-6.

“I was proud of our performance tonight. Offensively, we created a lot of scoring opportunities,” explained Manhattan head coach Sean Driscoll. “We have to give them [Saint Peter's] a lot of credit for their great effort; that is a much improved Saint Peter's team.”

Lutz put Manhattan on the scoreboard in the 33^rd minute with her first goal of the season and career. She settled a loose ball in the top left corner of the box, and blasted an arching shot into the top right corner.

Less than four minutes later, Lavecchia connected on a similar shot from the right side of the box, placing it just out of the reach for Saint Peter's goalkeeper Leigha Ashmen. Ashmen made a game-high 11 saves.

Manhattan goalie Alyssa Bachowski posted her first career-shutout, after receiving the spot start in lieu of injured teammate Caitlin Trupiano. Bachowski recorded three saves over 90 minutes.

The Lady Jaspers' starting backs contributed to the great defensive effort. Co-captains Jill Beauchamp, Brittany Duhamel, Kara Bucci and Lutz executed the game plan, preventing the Peahens from operating on the offensive end.

With the victory, Manhattan improves to 4-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC. The Lady Jaspers travel to Holy Cross on Monday, and return home Friday evening for its next conference match with Rider. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
