RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? Sophomore midfielder Sean Russell put Manhattan (2-9-1, 0-1-1 MAAC) on the scoreboard first, but Siena (4-5-1, 2-0-0) rallied for two goals, and escaped with a 2-1 decision this afternoon in Loudonville, N.Y. Saints' forward Mike DeSimone tallied the game winning goal in the 73rd minute.
With 33:49 on the clock, Russell scored the Jaspers' lone goal, marking the first of his collegiate career. Junior teammate Paul Rolston set up the play when he sent a long ball into the left side of the box. Russell tracked down the pass, and finished inside the right post.
The Saints retaliated less than seven minutes later when forward Robert DiFilippo tallied an unassisted goal. The squads entered intermission locked at 1-1.
At the 72:32 mark, DeSimone delivered the decisive goal. Anthony Tagliaferri wove a lead pass through the Jaspers' defensive, which DeSimone gathered and one-touched it past Jaspers' starting goalkeeper Randall Brobson.
Brobson made three saves on the afternoon. His counterpart Steve Skonieczny managed five in the winning effort.
