Manhattan University Athletics

Washington, D.C. (September 2, 2007)- Alicia DeFino kept Manhattan in the game with nine saves, including eight in the first half, but the Lady Jaspers dropped a 1-0 decision to Georgetown University this afternoon at the DC Invitational at American University.

The Hoyas tallied 17 first half shots and tallied the game's lone goal 32:53 into the game on a shot from Sarah Fetters.  The damage could have been a lot worse, but DeFino turned aside eight shots, while the Manhattan defense also tallied a save in the opening 45 minutes.  Georgetown also recorded six of its nine corner kicks in the opening half.

The second half was played very evenly, with the shot tally favoring the Hoyas by just one, 4-3.  Each goalie was tested once, without allowing a goal.

Brittany Duhamel paced the Manhattan offense with two shots.  Freshman Michelle Miyaki tallied the Lady Jaspers' lone shot on frame.

Manhattan will return to action on Wednesday, September 5, when the Lady Jaspers host the University at Albany at 4:00 p.m. at Gaelic Park.  The newly refurbished facility with be re-opened to collegiate athletics with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
