MORE JASPERS QUALIFY FOR THE ECAC, IC4A AND METS AT THE PRINCETON INVITATIONAL

PRINCETON, NJ (December 8, 2003) - Manhattan College track and field sophomore Jenna Daly (Massapequa, NY) set a new school record in the Pole Vault yesterday at the Princeton New Year's Invitational held at the Jadwin Gymnasium. Daly's vault of 3.15m also qualified her for the Metropolitan Championships.

In the women's events, junior Samantha Griffin (Jersey City, NJ) won first place in the 60m dash in a time of 7.89 seconds to qualify for the Metropolitan Championships. In the 60m Hurdles, sophomore Renee Foti (New Windsor, NY) placed ninth in the preliminaries at 9.84 seconds. Junior Therese Forsberg (Ostervala, Sweden) qualified for the MET Championships in the mile after finishing the race in 5:05.60. Junior Theresa Frierson (North Ridgeville, OH) ran the 500m dash in 1:16.63 and qualified for the MET and ECAC Championships, while freshman Lisa Naucler (Ljusdal, Sweden) qualified for the MET championships with her time of 1:19.67. Other Lady Jaspers that competed in the 500m dash were freshman Linn Modin (Borgholm, Sweden) who finished with a time of 1:22.48, freshman Michelle Jones (Ballston Spa, NY) who recorded a time of 1:23.55, sophomore Kendra Gellar with a time of 1:23.86, and sophomore Sarah Mollard (Glenville, NY) with the time of 1:29.74.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Modin, Naucler, Jones, and junior Rachel McGee (Bellport, NY) placed fifth overall with a time of 4:11.88. In the Triple Jump, senior Michanne Campbell (Mount Vernon, NY) was crowned champion with a leap of 11.56m, while Foti placed fourth, jumping 10.79m to qualify for the MET Championships. In the Weight Throw, sophomore Marina Liander (Staten Island, NY) placed second with a toss of 16.35m to qualify for the MET and ECAC.

In the men's events, senior Kurt Forsyth (Summit, NJ) captured first place in the 300m at 35.17 seconds. Sophomore Tyler Raymond (Scotia, NY) placed second in the Mile at 4:17.20 qualifying for the Metropolitan Championships. Senior Joseph Van Dyke (Millington, NJ) qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 1000m after placing third in a time of 2:30.67, while junior Daniel Kohler (Bethlehem, NY) placed 8th in 2:37.69.

Magnus Ahlen (Karlstad, Sweden) qualified for the IC4A and MET meets in the Long Jump with a leap of 7.29m. In the Triple Jump, Adeniyi Omisore (East Greenwich, RI) jumped 15.08m to qualify for the MET and IC4A meets, along with senior Janek Augustynowicz (Rutherford, NJ) who jumped 14.49m, and Ahlen jumped 14.32m. Sophomore Paul Henry (Flushing, NY) leaped 14.02m to qualify for the MET.

Sophomore Michael Freeman (East Greenwich, RI) placed second overall in the weight throw with a mark of 18.90m to qualify for the IC4A and the MET meets, along with sophomore Zoran Loncar (Belgrape, Serbia) who threw 18.06m and sophomore Anders Constantin (Udevalla, Sweden) who threw 17.48m.

The Jaspers will return to action Friday, December 12th when they compete in the Fordham Invitational at 5 p.m.
